Description
Excel’s OM4 50/125 μm loose tube cable is built for backbone and long internal-external runs where the cable needs to handle real-world conditions, not just a data sheet.
Inside, up to 24 colour-coded 250 μm fibres sit in a gel-filled, non-dripping, silicone-free tube, wrapped in an E-glass strength member. The gel keeps moisture out and lets individual fibres move slightly under thermal expansion, which is why loose tube is the standard choice over tight buffered for anything running through risers, ducts, or between buildings. The cable is also rodent-resistant, a detail worth flagging for anyone routing fibre through roof voids or underfloor spaces.
OM4 gives you higher bandwidth and longer supported distances than OM3 at 10G, 40G, and 100G, so it’s the safer spec for a backbone you don’t want to replace when traffic grows.
On fire performance, the LSOH sheath is rated B2ca under EN 13501-6 (s1a smoke, d0 droplets, a1 acidity), which meets the Construction Products Regulation requirements for cabling in most commercial buildings. Each length carries a printed DOP number for full traceability.
